Bagpiping at a Koh Samui wedding

Bagpiping at a Koh Samui wedding

Mr. Nutt and I Flew to the beautiful Thai island of Koh Samui for a very international wedding.
The groom hired us to add to the international feel, but especially as a surprise for his mother.

An early Saturday morning flight, and then an hour drive across the island got us to a splendid place on the beach. Now the challenging part of the wedding was that we were to be a surprise, so we had to stay out of sight next door. We were given a room where we could change into our kilts, and tune up our bagpipes.
– Although there could be concern about tuning up the pipes and then playing outside, “fortunately” the A/C was not working very well. The room didn’t get too cold, so the reeds and chanters were pretty close to the outside environment.

After getting dressed and tuned up in secret, or at least as secret as bagpipers can be, we walked next door and stayed behind the bushes before we made our entrance. The wedding guests were delighted, and the groom’s mother was ecstatic.

Many of the guests had flown in from the UK, and a good number of them were very curious about Mr. Nutt: a Thai national playing bagpipes. I enjoyed letting them know that he started playing before I did.

Altogether, everyone was delighted by the pipes, and everything went off without a hitch.

“I love to play bagpipes, and am always looking for more opportunities to play… preferably where pipes would be welcome. And legal, too”
