Bagpiping a Phuket Wedding

The Christmas season has been a busy one for me. I played for a ballet school, and just before Christmas, I was invited to do some bagpiping a Phuket Wedding.  This was my 2nd time in Phuket, but my first wedding there. It is nice that the flight to the area is pretty easy from Bangkok.

December 23rd, I was part of the wedding of a Scottish family.

The ceremony took place the Amari Phuket (Google Maps Link).

Normally, I do most of my bagpiping in Bangkok, but when there are weddings that require a bagpiper, I can take a flight to make it to Phuket or Koh Samui, or a car to Hua Hin or Pattaya.

The wedding ceremony by the Amari restaurant was very nice, and the location overlooking the water was beautiful. You could see Patong Beach and the cruise shipping sitting off the coast.

The tunes for bagpiping a Phuket Wedding were pretty common traditional tunes: I played Highland Cathedral as the wedding party came down the steps and walked down the aisle.

After the formalities, and as the minister said “you may kiss the bride” that was when I was asked to strike up and play Scotland The Brave. I played a few more tunes afterward, and was invited to dinner and the after-party to play more tunes.
