Bagpiping for a Bangkok Ballet School

At the end of the year, I had the opportunity to do some bagpiping for a Bangkok ballet school, Sauté dance studio. The school put on an end-of-the-year Christmas ceilidh, and so asked me and a friend of mine to come and join the fun. There were seven sessions over a Saturday and Sunday, so I was given plenty of time to play my bagpipes.

Bagpiping for a variety of ages and students for a Christmas ceilidh:

  • Played Auld Lang Syne to finish the ceilidh dancing
  • Lead a march from the studio to outside with Scotland the Brave
  • Playing a few tunes in the yard outside to welcome and finish the sessions

So many of the little girls were dressed to dance in cute dresses and tutus. Some of them were a bit uncertain about the volume of my bagpipes, but many were also very happy to take some pictures with me – and especially their parents. There were SO MANY PICTURES taken those two days.

Sauté school is run by two sisters, with help from their family and friends, that spent some time in Edinburgh, Scotland, and so have an affinity to Scotland, much like myself.

Everyone was incredibly nice and kind, and I hope I get the chance to play with or for them again.

Monday Reel Club

Another guest at the Sauté school’s Christmas ceilidh is Arthur, a friend from the Monday Reel Club. He teaches and calls the dances on Monday, and so was asked to help out at the ceilidh.

Thus was my opportunity to do some bagpiping for a Bangkok ballet school; for both children and adults, and I think we all had a great time…. Maybe next time we can get together for a fun Hogmanay.
