My first Irish jam session in Bangkok

My first Irish jam session in Bangkok

A new year, and a new opportunity to play around making some music! When I went to pipe band practice, it had come up that maybe it was time to think towards playing/getting pipe gigs for St. Patrick’s day. Additionally, I came across a a digital flyer advertising a jam session at a local Irish bar.

Joining the craic.

Saturday January 21st, I made it over to Soi 4, which has a ton of bars, including a Hooters. I brought my full set of pipes, and a couple whistles. the chanter reed in my small pipes is not working, so they were left behind.

I did not expect to play my pipes, as they are so loud, but it was not long after they asked me what I played that I was asked to go ahead and strike up to play some tunes.

There were a number of instruments at the jam:

  • three fiddles
  • two harps
  • tin whistles
  • a concertina (little accordion)
  • two bodhráns
  • guitar
  • lowland pipes
  • my highland pipes
