Burn’s Night in Bangkok does not have very many options, even less so for kids. However, the Neilson Hays Library puts on a children’s story-time event. So for 2026, I had the opportunity to do some Neilson Hays Library Bagpiping.
The library was founded in 1869, and “The elegant neo-classical building is not only the centrepiece of our library, but also a coveted venue for private events….”

Saturday morning, just after 10am, I struck up the pipes to welcome families to the historic library. The kids came in a little weary of what I was doing that was so loud, but a few took some pictures before we went inside for the event.
Bagpiping inside a library
Inside the library, I was invited to play Flower of Scotland and to explain to the kids (and parents) about the bagpipes and how they work. Playing inside the building was pretty great, the acoustics were phenomenal.
Auld Lang Syne was of course a great choice for the 2nd set for everyone to enjoy a familiar Burn’s tune.
Getting to do some Neilson Hays Library Bagpiping was an honor, and I hope to get the chance to play for them again. The library ins located in Silom, basically next door to the Bangkok British Club for the pipe band plays, so it was not far away, and easy to get to.
It was also rather nice that it was in the morning, and I had plenty of time to have lunch and make it to my next event that day – Playing the McDucation 20th Anniversary.
