St. Andrew’s Society Pub Quiz

St. Andrew’s Society Pub Quiz

Music interlude at the Pub quiz

The Bangkok St. Andrew’s Society held a pub quiz Thursday September 28th. Although there was a bit of a blackout for a bit of time before the quiz started, power was back on and quiz was a good bit of fun.

Not only did I get a chance to play my reelpipes a couple times, but I also was a member of the winning team!

Reelpipes – a little less intense bagpipes

The pipe band hasn’t really played much over the summer, and in the meantime, I have been working more and more on using my smallpipes, and my particular kind are called reelpipes.

With a bit of free time at the school I teach at, and access to a room that is far away from other folk that may not be in the mood for traditional bagpiping, I get to put in a good portion of time on the smaller chanter at a quieter level.

The chanter (the part I play with my fingers) is basically the same as the chanter on my bigger pipes, so I can play all the same tunes. As with any different instrument, there are some tunes that work better than others, and so I think I find myself playing some more Irish tunes.

“I love to play bagpipes, and am always looking for more opportunities to play… preferably where pipes would be welcome. And legal, too”
