I had the opportunity to play my bagpipes for two weddings on Koh Samui in February 2025. Both were beautiful events on beautiful days. It was a pleasure to play for the happy couples. They had different ideas of how they wanted to use a bagpiper, so there was no fear of feeling stale….

A wedding on the beach was a very nice touch. Held at Villa Kalyana, which was the location of the first wedding I played a couple years ago.
- Hiding in the TV room, to be a surprise for the guests
- Lead the bridesmaids with Skye Boat Song
- Lead the bridal couple with Flower of Scotland
- Lead guests to the dining area with Cock of the North
The wedding couple had attended school in Bangkok, and so it was no surprise that I ran into at least one person I knew living in the city. Fun times!

Another wedding was on the romantic day of Valentine’s Day and at the beautiful location of Samujana Villas.
- Pipe at the front to welcome guests
- Piping to invite the guests to the dinner (picture, left)
Future bagpiping events
Now that the Samui weddings are finished, its about time to start getting ready for the various events happening through March, especially St. Patrick’s Day. I am already getting the tunes sorted to play with my fellow piper, Chan, and we are working on getting a little more Irish color and emblems onto our uniform. We should be joined by Mark on the snare drum.
We should be playing for a Whisky night at the end of March, too. Hopefully we get to try some of the whisky… preferably after we play.
Also, I have also booked a birthday party in Hua Hin in May. There is a fellow that is from Glasgow Scotland celebrating a birthday, and his friend wants me to come down and play some bagpipes for him. Sounds like a great idea!
