Burns Night Ceilidh and Dance Party
As the COVID 19 lock downs in China started to wind down, a planned Burns Night was set to happen, finally. The University of Glasgow Alumni Association in Guangzhou had been working on making the event happen. The association was inviting alumni of other Scottish and UK universities, since I had graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow I was quite excited to support the endeavor.
FYI – a ‘ceilidh’ is a Scottish dance
Bagpiper Pictures galore!
The event was held in March 2019 in Guangzhou, in southern China, at the Grand Hyatt Guangzhou. It was a little different from a normal Burns Night as it was less about the food, and much more focused on Scottish dancing.
But as per usual, a main focus of the evening was taking lots of pictures.
A great night was had, and there was SO MUCH DANCING! A friend of mine was doing the calls for the dances* and so he was certainly kept busy with all the young alumni wanting to get on the floor and enjoy the traditional Scots dances.
*Scottish country dancing is a bit like barn dancing and it often helps to have a person familiar with the dances to call out the steps to assist the dancers.
