Piping the Asian Gaelic Games

Piping the Asian Gaelic Games

At the end of November, the Thailand GAA hosted the 2024 Asian Gaelic Games at the Patana Sports complex. Teams from across Asia came into Bangkok to compete. Bagpiping the Asian Gaelic Games was a new event and experience.

A big “thank you” to the Thailand GAA for the invitation to play. This was the second event by the organization in as many months. In October, I played a parade of athletes for the Youth Games (link here). Again, although the bagpipes we played are generally considered Scottish, they are not out of place to play for Irish events, especially as highland bagpipes can march, whereas Irish pipers have to sit down to play.

Chan and I on the pitch, just before we played the Irish National Anthem,

Chan and I met when we played in the pipe band together.

“I love to play bagpipes, and am always looking for more opportunities to play… preferably where pipes would be welcome. And legal, too”
